True self-care

True self-care is giving the world the best of you, not what’s left of you – Katie Reed

Recently I found in my notes, something that I wrote a while ago – I copied the text from somewhere. Annoyingly I can’t remember from where so I apologize for not giving credit to the rightful author.

But the message was something like this:

True self-care is not about baths and chocolate cake, it is making the choice to build a life you don’t regularly escape from. And that often takes doing the thing you least want to do.

It often means looking your failure and disappointments square in the eye and re-strategizing. It is not satiating your immediate desires. It is letting go. It is choosing new. It is disappointing some people. It is living in a way that other people won’t, so maybe you can live in a way that other people can’t.

And I would like to carry on and add that it’s important to believe that you can always grow. In every season, even in winter, there’s also growth in that. That shift that takes place deep in your heart.

True self-care is making your mental health a priority. True self-care is remembering that it’s ok to make mistakes, to have bad days, to be less than perfect. To be yourself! You are wonderful and beautifully made.

Allow your spirit to grow!

Remember you cannot serve from an empty vessel!
