I come from a small place, and growing up, I always thought that ”there is more out there”.
So every time I have the blessing of travelling to a new destination, I am reminded of the words that I believed when I was a kid:
There is more out there!
Portugal, for me, was something that I had wanted to visit for quite some time. There’s this photographer that I follow, Sonia, she lives there, close to Lisbon, and she always posts the most insane pictures of dramatic landscapes, beaches and cute houses. Every time I saw one of her posts, I had this ”oh, I wish I could be there” moment. And long story short, as you probably can guess from my previous article, Portugal finally happened.
It’s interesting how these influencers actually influence us.
Earlier, I mentioned my comfort zone, and you might say: ”You went on holiday; how is that stepping out of your comfort zone?”
While I enjoy the destination, I am in awe when I get to that new place; the journey is not always easy. From my fear of flying to irrational thoughts, like ”what if something happens to my mom and I am miles away? Even farther away from her than I am right now?” I don’t know; sometimes my mind can be an interesting place.
Why am I sharing all this? I think we need more honesty when it comes to what we post online. We learned to hide tooooo well behind ”perfect” pictures; however, no matter how pretty our pictures may look, ”the new” will constantly challenge our limits, one way or another.
Do you like travelling? What are your fears when you go to a new place?
Thinking of all I shared earlier, in my previous article I said that this holiday is everything I wanted and more. Despite all my ”hiccups”, those words are still true. My husband and I, both said that so far this is our favourite holiday. The hotel was lovely, Algarve is stunning, the people are welcoming and the food is delicious with plenty of gluten-free options.
“Each of us must confront our own fears, must come face to face with them. How we handle our fears will determine where we go with the rest of our lives. To experience adventure or to be limited by the fear of it.” Judy Blume
