3 books that I am reading right now – July edition

I think books, while they have their own stories, also tell a story about us. For me, books are like music, only with words accompanied by the rhythm of my hopes, dreams, and versions of me that I want to be or become. And sometimes, they might tell a story of my unmet wants.

Why do I read what I read?

For me is so easy to tell where I am with everything by just paying attention to what I am reading.

I heard that everything has a frequency and when you are locked in your frequency, you know. There’s something that clicks inside of you that lights you up. It makes you full of life and excitement and puts you in your element.

What makes you click? Is it a long walk? Some good food, a nice trip to a new place? People?

One of the things that make me click – surprise, surprise, are books, and this year I’ve been having this ”3 books per month” deal with myself.

So here is my July list:

  1. If You Feel Too Much: Thoughts on Things Found and Lost and Hoped for by Jamie Tworkowski – I mention this title also in my previous article. He is an internationally recognized leader in suicide prevention and a source of hope, encouragement, and support for people worldwide. I read it as research for tgeneration for where I want to take things with this platform. And while I had a little bit of a homework mentality, I ended up extremely encouraged in my personal life.
You’ll need coffee shops and sunsets and road trips. Airplanes and passports and new songs and old songs, but people more than anything else. You will need other people, and you will need to be that person to someone else, a living breathing screaming invitation to believe better things.

2. Find Your Path: Honor Your Body, Fuel Your Soul, and Get Strong with the Fit52 Life by Carrie Underwood. I don’t think this author needs any presentation. I’m a huge fan and I know more of her songs than I would like to admit. I wanted to buy this since she published it, in 2020. For two years I kept asking myself ”do I really want to pay £25 for one book?”. Oh well, I did it in the end.

Throughout the book, Carrie shares her personal journey toward health, from her passion for sports as a kid to the pressure to look perfect and fit the mould as she launched her career after winning American Idol, to eventually discovering the importance of balance and the meaning of true health. Some people watch workout videos, I read about them?. It helped me massively with my 60-day glow-up challenge. More about this challenge in a future vlog? Not sure yet, if not, I will definitely write about it here.

Beautiful pictures and full of practical advice on how to take better care of your body!

As expected, the book is full of guided workouts & recipes, however, one thing I won’t do and she emphasises this a lot is to count calories, track my weight, and always go for the healthy ingredients. I like that idea, but personally, I find that exhausting. But overall, if you are on a health/fitness journey, is worth a read. FYI – doesn’t have the best reviews on Goodreads.

While I am still on book 2, I would like to add one more thing to my ”healthy ingredients” comment. If you can follow her path, that’s great, I applaud you for this.

Me, I am more toward a balanced lifestyle. For example last Tuesday I was in the gym at 11 pm, a full workout, everything. Thursday, I had 2 sugary doughnuts for breakfast. Bad for my hips, perfect for my heart. :)) Kidding’

It made me happy and as much as I can, I try not to classify my food into good & bad. Again, do your research on this, figure out your why and do what’s best for you according to your health/fitness goals.

3. Through the Eyes of a Lion: Facing Impossible Pain, Finding Incredible Power by Levi Lusko. Since I started reading this book in April during my Amsterdam trip, I am not sure this should be on the July list, however, this has been one of the highlights of my reading plan.

This book is extremely painful to read. It is very real and very well written.

It hurts to read, but in a crazy way, while you feel with their loss, you also feel encouraged by their faith. Levi is a pastor and you can see his love for others throughout these pages. His love and his wife’s love.

“Crying is all right in its way while it lasts. But you have to stop sooner or later, and then you still have to decide what to do.”

More quotes that stayed with me:

“Right now you are in training for a trial you’re not yet in. Public victory comes from private discipline.”

“God doesn’t expect you to be happy about what has been torn from your hands—whether it’s a marriage, your health, a job, or someone you love—but if you are willing to trust him, he can turn trash into triumph.”

“The most important battle is the one you fight within, in your mind and heart, to not give up. If you give up hope, you won’t have the motivation to do anything else in a critical situation.”

”Your suffering is being used to create the anointing oil for the next level God wants you to reach. Squeeze every drop out of your trial. Let nothing be wasted. Hold nothing back. None of your tears have fallen to the ground unseen. God has a plan to put each of your difficulties to use like a seed that goes into the ground and brings forth a harvest of righteousness.”

And I could carry on.

Going back to my frequency observation from earlier, I hope you find yours. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Can’t wait to come back with my August list.
